For ‘Navratri’ celebrations at Babajis second ashram in Chillianaula, Ranikhet,

we had to get up around 4:30 am in the mornings, take a hot shower, and get ready for the days prayers, practises, etc. The mornings would just be beautiful. I was sleeping in the mens dorms, with about another 12-14 men. Mostly from Europe. After i would be ready, i would have to go to a temple, where sandalwood paste would applied on my forehead. Its called “Chandan”. Whats surprising is the cooling effect, it has on your brain, mind and body. It also looks good strangely. Also, a ‘Dhuni’, sacred fire would be lit, around which amazing songs would be sung for the goddesses in the Hindu tradition.

Quite marvellous to be doing all of this, just as the sun would wake up.
